The United States and Cabo Verde share a partnership focused on economic development, security cooperation, and democratic governance. To support these collaborative efforts, the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations is constructing a new U.S. embassy in Praia that will strengthen the United States’ relationship with Cabo Verde, serving as a platform for continued engagement in achieving the administration’s goals. Praia serves as the country’s administrative and political center and a hub for U.S.-Cabo Verdean initiatives. The city is home to programs aimed at strengthening maritime security, expanding trade and investment opportunities, and advancing democratic values.

The new U.S. Embassy Praia supports important diplomatic and commercial relations between the United States and Cabo Verde.
It will provide a safe, secure, functional, and resilient space to strengthen collaboration with Cabo Verdean government officials, civil society, and private sector leaders to advance U.S. foreign policy, ensuring the United States is safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

Design & Construction
In addition to the primary facility, the project includes a Main, Consular, and Service Compound Access Control, a Support Annex, and a Utility Building.
A workforce of approximately 600 U.S, local, and third-country workers will support construction.
The training, experience, and certification provided to workers expands the pool of skilled workers for future mission needs.

Building Performance
A model of building performance optimization, the design reduces risk and operating costs associated with utilities and maintenance while enhancing natural hazards adaptation. Flood risk is addressed through site-specific mitigation measures and an innovative stormwater management plan.
Arts & Cultural Heritage
The new embassy will embody U.S. creativity and heritage through design and craftsmanship, fostering dialogue and diplomacy to strengthen relationships and advance U.S. interests. It will incorporate U.S. and Cabo Verdean contemporary artwork throughout the building, curated by OBO’s Office of Art in Embassies (AIE).
